Article about getting web traffic trough SEO

While I was searching for some useful information about search engine optimization this morning I have stumbled on this article. I think it is very useful and informative so I want to share it with visitors of my blog.
Author of this article is Paul Richard Doyle.
Read article belowe.

Web traffic through Search engine optimization

Search engine Optimization is one of the finest ways to generate targeted Web traffic. The ultimate goal of Search Engine optimization is to get a web site to the first few pages of Search engines which generate a lot of search engine web traffic.

A lot of ways exist to achieve search engine optimization to get web traffic. The first thing among them that bothers the most is the use of keywords appropriately on the site.

So, search engine optimization starts right from the website design. Using the highest priority keywords is the key tool in search engine optimization.

Google, in the past, considered keyword density as the tool for search engine optimization. Keyword density simply means placing the main keyword many number of times the content of the site for web traffic. This proved good for a period of time to provide good web traffic. The only disadvantage here is that, repeating the same keyword many times brings in duplicate content to the site and duplicate content is never good.

So, Google has made changes in this law. What Google defines as quality now is that content that not only contains the main keyword but also contains a few other related keywords that Google finds basing on an algorithm and awards traffic this way. Google named this as LSI relevancy.

Google has put in its generous effort to define the highest priority related keywords for any content of the site. The effort resulted Google Ad word tool. What we do here is, very simple. We just type in the main keyword for which we are targeting web traffic into the input box and a list comes up with all the related keywords. As you can imagine, this has made it easy to find the related keywords. The next step is to include maximum number of the related keyword in the content of the web site. It’s as simple as that.

Most of the people use this way. Another way exists, but many ignore this. In the other way, we make a search of our main keyword in Google. We then find out the website ranked highest by Google for our keyword. We can then find out the keywords used in the highest ranked website. To do this, another part of Google Ad words tool is to be used. This appears as “Instead of descriptive words or phrases you do it by web content”. This is pretty easy. We just need to type in the URL we got from the first website in the search engine results and in a few seconds a list appears with all the related contents. These are the related keyword that we need. The next steps are similar. We just use these related keywords in the site content. This makes the site search engine optimized in the eyes of Google. Hence our objective is accomplished.

SEO Tips & Tweaks – Some Timeless Ranking Factors and Some Outdated Ones

The search engine optimization industry has been one of the most dynamic ones. It always keeps web masters and website owners on their toes as they strive to get their websites on the top of search engine results.

Search engines like Google frequently change their algorithms of which, some of which they announce and some of which are left for us to guess. Either ways, we have to keep up out optimization efforts in order to preserve the rankings and make it score higher. However, in spite of the changes and updates, there are several practices that remain consistent throughout i.e. they are as relevant in today's time as they were in the past.

Here are some timeless SEO tips and tweaks that would help you improve your website ranking in search results.

Title Tags

Search engines place increased importance on the title tags of web pages. In fact, the title tags are one of the most important SEO elements of a web page. Good title tags are defined by their effective summarization of the web page in relevant words. All the pages of your website should have a unique and keyword rich title tags. These tags not only inform the search engines about the page contents but also appear in the search results and tell users about the contents.

Anchor Text

The visible text of the link is called the Anchor Text. One of the most important SEO ranking factor is the number of inbound links and the text that is used to connect the link hold increased importance. This is because the text that is used for the links also get indexed by the search engine crawlers and affects your rankings. For example if you sell T-shirts online and there is an external link that says 'Find Customized T-shirts Here' it would be a whole deal better to link the words 'customized T-shirts' than 'here'. This is the same case with your internal linking as well. Therefore, try and use descriptive 'keyword-rich' text for your links while linking to your own web pages.

Quantity of Inbound Links

With links, what is more important than the number of links is the number of unique domains they are coming from. If you have 100 inbound links coming from 50 different domains, it is actually better than having 1000 links coming from 5 domains. It is all about how dispersed and extended your link architecture is rather than how dense it is.

Social Media

Social media is a very powerful media to establish your presence and extend your business on the web. Social media websites like Facebook and Twitter offer enormous opportunities to plagiarize your content and increase your linking on the web. They can act as efficient traffic generating sources if used correctly.

Just as there are these basic SEO tweaks, there are also certain practices that have become outdated and don't work anymore. Here are some of them.

H1 Tags

They were a rage in the past because they informed the search engine crawlers about the increased importance of the particular text just because of the increased size. What happened was a little bit of CSS was used to specify H1 tags just anywhere and everywhere. However, at present H1 tags don't have all that importance.

Keyword Density

This was an important SEO consideration sometime back until people started stuffing keywords in the text to get a high density. As of now, there is no important placed on them. Rather, what is important is having good and highly valuable content.

SEO For Travel-Based Websites

It is almost officially summertime and it feels like it in Austin. The travel bug has already been biting for weeks now in Volacci’s home base, and I know I can’t help but check out a few travel-based websites to dream of a getaway. Unfortunately, it isn’t a good year to set any tourism records abroad, stay-cations are on the rise in popularity and are giving travel agents the shivers just to think about. That is why having the right foundation for SEO on your Web site is even more important than ever before.

Various financial experts agree that a recession is an opportune time to implement new and forward-thinking initiatives within a business to tighten up and re-calibrate their overall marketing model. If search engine optimization isn’t involved yet, then you may not see too much business even after this recession dwindles into the past tense. It is time to step up, and make sure that your SEO efforts are ready for take-off.

Creative Keywords

This is the tail that wags the dog of your SEO campaign. You need the right chemistry of keywords to be successful. This means getting creative with a mix of brow sweat and elbow grease. Use Google’s Keyword Tool and focus on competitive keywords within the travel industry. If they have a high search volume, chances are the pool is crowded. Everyone is fighting to optimize these terms. It’s easier to find your kid in a swimming pool with fewer screaming kids. Look for the keywords that have a decent volume, more than 500 per month and where the Google Adwords competition bar isn’t completely full, but is green. Find keywords around phrases such as “best time to visit X”, “things to do in X”, where “X” is a city or country.

Use Keywords in Content

So you have just finished a thorough, research initiative for keywords, and you are satisfied in the investment. Now, you need to use those keywords in all the written content you create for the site. Every web page on your Web site should be rich with keywords, but don’t keyword “stuff” the content. Be very careful to retain the integrity of your copy so that it sounds natural. You are still talking to humans, after all. You should also inject them into the external articles you have written during your link building campaign (which I address later). These articles will be informative resources for people interested in your specialty. The articles will lead them right to your site.

SEO-Friendly Website

Now that you have your keywords picked out, and have used them throughout your site, make sure your site is SEO-friendly. If you are still using frames, javascript/AJAX, or flash without any HTML version added, then your website is considered an ancient wonder of the internet. A SEO-friendly website consists of clean HTML. Build your website in a content management system, such as Drupal, which is very user-friendly and allows you to customize your site like you have never be able to before. The more professional it looks, the more people will book.

Link Building

You now have quality content, both on- and off-page, and your site is SEO-friendly. You can promote your business and blog through social networking sites, like Facebook and Twitter, forums, and commenting on other people in your professional community. This should jump-start a link building campaign that will help your online presence gain relevancy with people and search engines, boosting your site’s rankings and online traffic.

Travel websites are highly competitive in these frugal times. Making sure your website is found and closes the deal with consumers is more important than ever before. If you ensure that your website is SEO-friendly and is implementing a quality SEO campaign, then you will ensure your business will make it through the global popularity boom of stay-cations.

Eight Steps to Number One on Google

We are all aware the Internet is constantly changing and staying up to date on the latest developments is extremely important if you want your business to do well online. The fundamentals of search engine optimization don't change and if you pay attention to these tried and true rules you can be extremely successful online.

The following are eight elements for you to take into consideration whenever you add any new content to your site. If you address each of these elements your search positioning will consistently improve, as will the quality of visitors coming to your site. Let's face it ... You don't just want traffic; you want relevant traffic that is looking to buy. The following is a list of things you need to focus on so your website will appear at the top of the search results in the most relevant of searches.

Page Title

Your page title is one of the first things the search engine spiders view. This title tells the search engines what your page is about. You should NOT simply repeat the keywords over and over in this title. You should limit this title to 8-10 words and it should make sense to the visitor. Don't simply write anything for the spiders. If you do it will lead to a bad user experience and your visitor won't return.

URL

The URL that displays in the address bar of your browser should also contain the keyword focus of the page. The best way to include the keywords is to separate them with hyphens (-). If you don't the search engine spiders will view all the words as one big word.

Meta Data

The meta keywords and meta description are not given as much importance by the search engines as they used to. You should still take the time to create a meta description which includes your keywords of focus for each individual page. Make sure this description makes sense and contains at least one use of the keyword phrase you are focusing on. Also include your keyword phrase in the meta keywords but don't stuff it in over and over. Limit your meta keywords to 8-10 keywords.

Headings and Sub Headings

Headings and sub headings are very similar to chapters of a book. They describe what it is you'll be reading in the coming pages. With your website you should use H1 tags with your keyword of focus on the page. If you have multiple, related keywords of focus for that page, you can use additional H2, H3, and H4 tags as sub headings. Remember, your visitors will be reading these headings so they need to make sense while still including your keywords.

Text Based Navigation

Search engines cannot read images or flash. It is best to use text based navigation which includes the keywords you are focusing on for the page that link is leading to. This will let the search engines know what the page it is linking to is about, and will act as a "vote of confidence" for that keyword. It will also create an excellent user experience since the visitor will know exactly what they are going to see once they click the link. Avoid text based navigation that simply says "About us" and change it to "About Your Company." There are millions of other companies that are doing it wrong and competing for the phrase "About us." It is much easier to win for the phrase "About Your Company."

Image Alt Text

Search engines cannot read images, but they can read the alternative text in your images. If you add this, the spiders know what your image is. If you include the keywords you are focusing on as alternative text for your images, you'll be letting the spiders know what relevance the image has and it will be yet one more instance of proper keyword usage. Many companies skip this, so if you pay attention, you'll be further ahead.

Body Copy

When writing the copy for your page it is important to include your keywords in the copy. Each page of your website should contain between 250 and 600 words and you should include your keyword phrase at least 4-5 times. If adding it that many times lessens the quality of your copy and you believe it will lessen the value your visitor will give to it. DON'T do it! Your objective should be to create an excellent user experience and provide value to your visitor.

Build Links

The phrase from the movie Field of Dreams, "Build it and they will come," doesn't apply to the web. Once you've built your website and have paid attention to all of the elements above, you need to generate awareness and gain inbound links. Search engines look at these inbound links as "votes of confidence" for your site. If those links are coming from relevant sites which have a high page rank, they will be viewed as highly credible "votes" by the search engine algorithms and you will see an increase in your position.

If you use these eight steps as a template to refer to when creating each page on your website, you will find yourself rapidly moving up through the ranks of the search results and the quality of your traffic will soar. This all leads to much higher conversion rates, and huge increases in your online revenue.

How to Use Multiple C Class IP hosting with SEO to Build Backlinks

We all know that Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the best and most effective way of marketing a website. It is the most efficient method for driving traffic to your website.

Google largely values backlinks that your website may have from some other relevant websites with barely any outgoing links. Generating backlinks is still very important to gain Search Engine trust and to boost up your rankings. So, it would be good, if you find any way to get few backlinks for your site from relevant sites.

But, it is not always possible to get backlinks from the relevant site as other sites are your competitors and why would they provide a link to your website?

With the motive of clearing out illegitimate techniques of SEO employed by black hat users, Google has given a set of restrictions that prohibit black hat users from using their techniques to play with Google’s Algorithms. And, one prominent restriction among these is: Google does not consider any backlinks from other websites hosted on the same C Class IP as yours.

If you want only to increase the Page Rank of your website for flipping, then multiple C Class IP hosting is not the one you want to waste your time on. But, if you’re looking to rank your website for a particular keyword, if highly targeted traffic is what you are craving for then multiple C Class IP hosting is the best thing for you.

C Class IP Explained

Basically, an IP consists of 4 parts: Class A, B, C, D divided by ".". These numbers are given to identify a particular network and a host on that network.

Now, as we mentioned above that Google does not count backlinks from websites that are hosted on IP Addresses in the same IP C Class as your website is hosted, it might get little complicated for utilizing backlinks for ranking. However, this trick surely has a solution. What you can do is create your own websites and trick Google into counting the backlinks.

Simply, you need to create websites on different C classes and place your backlinks on them. The entire procedure is extremely simple, provided you arrange for Multiple C Class web hosting. Once you avail this requirement, all you have to do is registering 10 different domain names in accordance with the niche of your website.

Create WordPress blogs on each domain and craft exclusive, keyword rich articles for these blogs. And then easily get your keywords hyperlinked and backlinks them to your website.

When it comes to boosting your position on SERPs, these backlinks work wonders. They efficiently boost your search engine rankings for your specific keywords as you have backlinks from 10 different websites all of which have low outbound links. This step increases your trust rank amazingly and opens a huge funnel for traffic from Search Engines.

Hence, Multiple C Class IP Hosting is a successful way to enhance your search engine rankings. However, link building is somewhat an expensive option but Multiple C Class IP hosting makes it simple and effective for low budget webmasters.

Effective Search Engine Optimization Strategies For The Small Business Owner

For small business owners the Internet has proved to be extremely beneficial. Unlike traditional forms of advertising and marketing the Internet provides several advantages that helps small business to reach more potential customers and also get better value for money. While traditional advertising requires organizations to spend thousands of dollars on branding and promotional activities, with online advertising and effective search engine optimization better results can be achieved at much lower cost. Moreover results achieved in the Internet media offers more lasting benefits than conventional promotions.

Small business owners can reach a large customer base with the help of effective search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM) strategies. More than 80% of people searching for goods and services start with Internet to find them. Therefore if a small business can attract even a small part of these potential customers to its website and eventually convert then into actual buyers it can increase its online revenues significantly.

Internet marketing, which includes SEO and SEM, requires formulating and implementing effective strategies to draw more targeted traffic that can eventually be converted into customers. Although every business must consider optimizing their websites in the search engines, for e-commerce website it is an 'absolute must'.

Small business enterprises engaged in e-commerce face fierce competition nowadays. To stay ahead of the competition they need to be visible to the targeted visitors and quickly draw their attention. Ranking higher in the search engines is the first major task, followed by successful branding campaign.

For a small business owner to achieve their highest and best return on investment, it is crucial to first formulate a strategy before starting an internet marketing campaign. Then you can begin taking advantage of comprehensive SEO tactics involving various proven methods for driving more traffic to your site.

1. Know your Audience
This is the most important task since your entire internet marketing campaign is directed towards your niche audience. If you fail to know your audience you will target the wrong people and subsequently lose business. A little research to identify who are your customers and also to know how they look for goods and services in the search engines will help you make the right strategy.

2. Set a Goal
Unless you have a well-defined goal, you do not have a direction. Therefore it is important to set the right goal. Once you have your goals clear you can use the optimal amount of resources and channelize your efforts in the right direction. The budget for small business marketing can be estimated once the goal is set.

3. Select the right SEO techniques
There are several SEO techniques that will prove helpful for your internet marketing efforts although the amount of benefit you can derive from any single technique can be difficult to ascertain. A mix of various techniques is necessary to have a balanced SEO campaign. Basic SEO will include a balanced
combination of Niche Directory Submissions, Social Media Marketing, On page optimization through effective Meta tags, great content, a working internal link structure and a site map to name a few. Other important techniques include link building campaigns and excellent PR and article marketing strategies. Oh, and don't forget about analyzing your competition! What are they doing differently than you? What's working and where can you make changes to your strategy to achieve similar results? Use Alexa and other traffic/competitive measurement tools to check up on your competition.

3. Measure the Results
Without measuring the results and properly analyzing how your website is performing you cannot know if the search engine techniques are bringing positive results. However, it generally takes around 3 – 6 months to get tangible results from an organic online advertising and marketing campaign. Measuring the results periodically will help you identify if anything is wrong in your strategy or if you need to intensify your campaign. I strongly recommend incorporating a measurement tool such as Google Analytics to provide the tools necessary to measure your
results.

5. Make proper adjustments
After measuring your results to determine what's working and what's not you will need to make adjustments. Internet marketing is a direct response medium and A/B testing is crucial for success.Make changes to improve your results. This will be an ongoing process, not a one time deal. Google, Yahoo and even the smaller search engines continually change their algorithms. So, what worked one month may not work as well the next. Simple testing and making minor adjustments when needed will keep you ahead of the curve.

Architecture for SEO

Making your web site's information and content affects various parts of your business's web sites,

Usability:
Achieving high search engine rankings can drive voluminous amounts of targeted traffic to your website, but making the site user friendly is also important. You need to create a logical information architecture that will make sense to users.

Rankings:
In addition to users, it's also necessary to consider search engines in creating an intelligent content structure. You want to ensure you're giving the right pages the right amount of emphasis.

Conversions:
Web design for businesses should also feature a natural walk through the conversion process. IA in these instances should walk the user through the conversion process, offering informative pages which begin with broad, early-in-the-buying cycle content and consistently moves the user towards the next step in the purchasing process.

While every link on your site has value and passes some degree of "link equity" (search engines essentially see links as votes, and each "vote" passes a certain amount of "juice," also known as link equity), two types of links tend to pass considerably more juice than others,

Internal Links:
Links that are in your site's "site wide navigation" include an internal link on each page of your site. These links, notably those in your site's tool bar or left or right navigation bars, pass a lot of "juice" as they are voting for their targeted page across your site.

Inbound Links:
Your website receives link equity not only from its own pages, but also from other pages across the Web. In many cases, most of these inbound links will be pointed at your home page. Thus, pages that are "closer" to the home page (linked to directly from the site's home page) receive more of this valuable link equity.

The higher up in your site's architecture a page is, the more likely that page will be able to rank for more competitive keywords. The most competitive keywords, as one might imagine, are generally the short, broad, traffic driving keywords.

The Importance Of A Good Internal Link Structure In SEO

There are 3 reasons why you should spend time on the internal link structure of your site. It ensures that the spiders can find all your pages and index them. It builds the relevance between a page and a keyword. And as a site owner you can determine the PR value of your pages.

Indexing of your website

Ensure that all your pages, or at least those that are important to you, can easily be found by the spiders. This seems logical but if they are not found, you can not expect that one day your site ranks in the top 10. Miracles happen... but not in the SEO world.

1) More pages means a larger site, allowing you to be seen as an "authority", at least if you have something useful to say. For more details go to: www.the20seotools.com.More pages means you can build links between pages. These will get stronger and finally you will build more PR. And the more pages, the more keywords / phrases / long tail keywords you can target and the more pages you will see pop up in the results.

Building relevance between keywords and pages

Before you begin with your internal link strategy you must know for what keyword you want to rank a certain page in the search engines. Your main page will always have your main keywords and your internal pages can concentrate on less competitive keywords or long tails.

The key here is a good anchor text ... If you want to refer to a page that is about the "opening of a shop" and that is the key phrase you want to be found in Google, then use those keywords in the text that lets you link to that given page. Don't link with a text like "in a previous article".

Also try to link from relevant pages that have something to do or might be connected with the opening of a shop. That way you get relevant pages linking to each other.

The green bar

2) About this (too) much-discussed green poison, I will only mention that you should not be mislead by it however it is still very important for good results. The principle is very simple, the more pages you have, the more PageRank you can get and the more you can divide or send PageRank to important pages in your site. For can visit to: www.offline-promotion.com.There's a big difference if your site contains only 50 pages of which 10 have PR, or you have a site with 500 pages of which 300 are green.

Finally, I would say, create a good balance between your external link building campaigns and your internal link structure. Create a clear plan of keywords / phrases that you want high scores for in the search engines and try to give the feeder pages good external links.

Do you have any kind of web presence? Do you have a website or a blog? Do you have a Squidoo lens? Or a HubPage?

Then you have something to tell people, right? Perhaps you have something to sell and you want as many people as possible to find your site.

Things to Consider Before Beginning an SEO Campaign

If you have a website and want to begin SEO, have you thought about it properly? Do you know what you want you want to achieve and have you planned properly? The aim of this article is to give you some advice on the things you need to think about before you get started on your SEO campaign.

The first thing to say is that if you are considering SEO then your marketing strategy is going along the right lines. However the last thing you want to do is waste money. Before you begin there are some important questions you should ask yourself. Once you have addressed all of them then you are ready to begin:

1. What do you want to happen?

This seems a very simple question but it is important to set proper goals. Many companies will focus on getting higher rankings in the search engines. However this is a very vague measure and you should think more in terms of traffic and conversions. Your goal should be to get more people to your website and to increase the percentage of those people that you get to buy your products or services.

Another important thing to do before you begin is to get an understanding of SEO. If you know nothing about it then how can you expect to find a firm that will be able to effectively carry out your goals? Like in any other area there are plenty of companies that claim to do SEO but really have very little knowledge at all. In order to find a good firm you need to know what questions to ask and the only way to do this is to research the subject and get an understanding yourself.

2. Where do you want to be?

You know you want to appear in the search engines, but what do you want to appear for. Think of the main areas of your business and what words you think you have the greatest chance of converting for. You can either research the words yourself or a good SEP company will be able to help. It is important to find words that are not only relevant but also have a high search volume and low competition.

3. What will it take to achieve your goals?

Many companies will tell their SEO company that they want to get to the top of the search engines urgently. This is where you should be careful. It is important to point out that there is no magic or any special tricks involved with SEO. The main idea behind search engines is that they want to show interesting popular sites first.

You might be in the very lucky group of people that already have a popular interesting website and there are just some technical changes needed to help your ranking. However if you are being realistic there are a few things you will need to think about.

Firstly you might have to wait time to acquire the links you need to be at the top of the search engines. Secondly you may need to employ the services of a copywriter to produce more content for your website that you need to compete. Also remember that the more competitive your keywords the longer it will take and the more work required to get to the top of the search engines.

4. What will it cost to achieve your goals?

It is important to know what your SEO efforts will cost you and what your return on investment will be. Remember that SEO experts that do the job properly are hard to come by and so will cost decent money. However the return on investment can be great and well worth the investment.

Let’s suppose you are spending £5000 per month on your SEO. After a few months you are appearing in the top 2 for the search engines for your keywords. If chosen correctly this could generate you 50,000 visitors per month. Being conservative, let’s suppose you convert 10,000 of those visitors and an average sale for you is £5. This means you will bring in £50,000 of sales giving you an ROI of 1000%. This is clearly an investment you should be making.

Conclusion

There is a great saying - Fools rush in where angels fear to tread. What we mean by this is don’t jump into your SEO campaign before you have carefully planned out the route you are going to take. In the long run it will save time and money.

Back Links With Anchor Text

Today even 6 year old kids know that content is the king of Internet. If you have good and relevant content, search engines will find your site faster, people will visit this site more often, and you will be enjoying targeted traffic.

The first sale on the internet took place in August, 1994. It was the sale of a CD in the USA. Six years later in 2006 internet sales were £800 million per year, and in just the last 2 years internet sales are now worth a whopping £250 billion per year.

Anchor text, in a nutshell, is the text attached to a link that points to your site. Google and other major search engines place a lot of weight on not just links but also on what exactly is made-up of the actual link. Many times people attach links to such words as "click here" or "homepage". Unfortunately, according to Google's search algorithm or ranking formula, you are now getting credit for the term "click here" and not "widgets online" or whatever keyword or phrase you are optimizing for. When link building, it is very important to fully understand what keywords you are trying to optimize for and include them in the links you build. When issuing press releases, news articles, and blog entries, make sure you are including anchor text with all links pointing to your site.

One important part of SEO is anchor text - which means the text that is linked. For instance, if you hyperlink the text "home page" then home page is the anchor text. Usually people think of back links when the term anchor text is used, but anchor text is also important for internal linking.

As with incoming links, you should try to include important keywords with internal links, where possible & appropriate.

Why links are so important? Quantity of links pointing towards your site decides the future of your internet business. While building links you should pay attention not only on quantity but also on quantity of links. Quality links serve two purposes for your website. They not only build credibility of your site but also generate targeted traffic to your website.

How to Improve Search Engine Rankings of Your Site:

1. Research Keywords: It is very important to have a keyword or phrase related to your site’s theme. Type a suitable keyword and go to wordtracker.com, which is a catalog search activity at major search engines. They show the number of times that an entry is being searched at major search engines. This service also gives you a list of related terms. Wordtracker gives you more ideas to look for other important search words appropriate to your site for attractive visibility.

2. Pick Keywords and Get Some Links: Compile a list of often-searched names related to your site’s theme. Pick the phrases with several thousand searches and use in the anchor text of the inbound links that you build for your site.

The search engines will just think you're trying to spam its index so that's why making sure your link is on topic and points to a relevant webpage. Another way to supercharge you back links is to make sure the page that your link is on is also on topic and is a related webpage to your topic.

How to Optimise Your Website For Local Search Traffic

With search engine optimisation getting more and more competitive, it can be tough to reach the top of the search engines for highly competitive keywords. For popular keywords it can take months and a great deal of cash to get anywhere near the top but that doesn't mean your website is destined to sit at the bottom of the listings though. Search engine optimisation is all about finding niches and thinking as a search engine user so you can predict what people will search for.

Whether your company has a small or large marketing budget, you can make an impact in the search engines by focusing on highly targeted keywords. Optimising your site for a very broad term such as 'search engine optimisation company' is unlikely to bring you much traffic as there will be hundreds or even thousands of companies out there who are also targeting that keyword. Instead of broad terms include local key search phrases in your website copy such as 'SEO Leeds' so local businesses looking for local service providers can find you.

How to incorporate local search terms in your website copy
Thankfully the days of cramming multiple keywords into website copy have just about gone with many businesses opting for fewer keywords and quality content instead. The next time you review your keywords and website copy consider these tips below...

• Local speech
Depending on where you are in the country, people will speak in different ways and call certain items different names. If you're looking to attract local traffic then consider how people in that area will search for your service by the way they talk. For example, local people tend to shorten local place names such as referring to 'Scunthorpe' as 'Scunny'. People who live in the North of England use different words to describe different items to people in the South and these can vary greatly from city to city. Decide on the terms which are used in the areas you want to encourage local traffic and use these in your website copy. Another aspect to optimise your site for includes covering the local area of a town or city. If you optimise your website for 'SEO Leeds' then make sure you also cover the term 'SEO West Yorkshire'.

• Contact page
The Contact page on your website is the ideal place to mention the areas that your business operates in. Most Contact pages have the business address but try adding a paragraph above this to encourage people to contact you as this will give you another opportunity to add a keyword to the copy. You could also include the local areas you operate in and also exact towns and locations in the copy. Consider adding a footer to each page of your website which features your company name and address - this is good practice from the website visitors' point of view as well as it means people can easily find your contact details.

Make sure you harness local traffic looking for local services in your area by using these simple tips to optimise your website with highly targeted keywords.

SEO FOR ALL

So you have a web site, great isn’t it as you sit back and look at your own little bit of world on the internet. It's been up and running some time now, but you have a problem, you aren’t getting many hits and you want to know what you can do about it. Course there are programmes you can buy to get your website higher in the search engines, but have you seen the cost of those things? They can cost £200 plus. Not something that most of us want to splash out on, when all we wanted to do was share a little bit of a hobby with the world, or sell a few items for pocket money. Spending hundreds of pounds seems to be over kill when more than likely the website itself didn’t cost that much in the first place.
So is there an answer.. well yes there is and it doesn’t cost you a penny. all it takes is a little time and a little insight to how the search engines work.
I openly admit that I’m no expert, what i have learned i have done so through hard work and a lot of sifting through the jargon that can be found out there to help us. Annoyingly though, most are trying to sell you something so your not sure what to believe, if what they are saying is all hype trying to sell you their answer. I’m not trying to sell you anything here,im just sharing with you what i know, in the hope that you too will get the traffic you desire to your website.
So, enough waffle, lets get down to the facts.

1) Did you know that the name of your website url is very important. to get the search engines to rank you high, you must have your keyword in the title. Lets give an example here of what i mean. Let’s take a website that sells new age gifts, let’s call it www.spiritcharms.co.uk nice name, and seems to convey the essence of the products. trouble is the name doesn’t tell you what they are or sell. A new age gift shop should have the words new age gift shop in the url title. if it doesn’t then the search engines mark that against you. A good example of good naming is
a website store that sells Gothic item, call it www.thegothicstore.co.uk and you are laughing, the search engines love that. so it is very important to choose your name carefully. it is worth it to change your url if it isn’t going that well, they are very cheap now. Co.uk only costs around £5 for two years if you shop around. Think carefully about your Url does it say what you are or do???

2) Content content content... now this is something else that is important. the search engines love what they call "RICH CONTENT". So what does that mean? well simply put, lots and lots of meaningful text for the search spiders to get their teeth into. Don’t just stick a few lines on your front page and fill it up with pictures, video, flash content. The search engines cant read that content and don’t like it too much. also change the content often, at least twice a week. The search engines seem to know when you have changed something and come to have a look, which of course is good for your indexing.

Don’t forget to include your keywords in your rich text content, but be very careful not to over do it. The densities of your Keywords are very important, too much and you will get penalized, leave a keyword out of your content and you will get penalized for that too.

3) Links, now links are a biggy when it comes to your rankings. some say this is the most important factor of them all when it comes to the search engine ranking you in a good position. Not just any old links though. The best links are those that relate to what your own website is about. So if you sell grass seed, then good links would have grass seed in the title of the website you are linking to. Failing that then the next best thing is websites that are closely related grass seed. Garden supplies, lawnmowers ect.

Don’t just link to anybody and everybody, the search engines do penalize you if your links are scattered about all over the place, stay away from link farms, and shady or banned sites too.

4) Speaking of content, did you know that the search engines rank you for the simplistic text; they rank you higher the less education you need to read it. Yep that’s right. If you have lots of big word on your site that you need a degree to understand because you think it makes your site look good, then think again. simple is best...

Now there are a few tips for you to be getting on with and don’t cost you a penny to implement....

Good luck

Stephen

I am a webmaster of two sites. www.spiritcharms.co.uk and www.thegothicstore.co.uk. i have owned a few websites over the years and have learned that the biggest stumbling block for most people is the search engines and how they rank you. most people dont want to splash out hundreds on SEO utilities, me included, so i have become dedicated to make it simple for ordinary folk like you and me, to understand the basics of SEO, and try to teach people the basics.

Article contribution in SEO Services

There are several articles written these days on different type of websites and most of them look in the way that these are written primarily for the search engines. One can easily identify these articles because they are stuffed with lot of keywords and do not contain much useful terms.

Writing articles for search engines is not a bad thing but it should also from users point of view. Many websites may have ranked better in search engines due to such kind of SEO work and now the technology is catching up very fast and the reader and user are given due preference and it is not based on the fashion just nor repeat the keywords.

While providing SEO Services all the professionals and content writers must write with some common objective in mind like providing the accurate information, getting higher rank and better linking with other sites.

These days article writing and submission to different article directories has also proved powerful aspect in providing SEO Services and it also enhance a website visibility on the internet. The article seems lost in case the website does not provide the useful information. In case the visitors do not find interesting article, they will ignore it soon click out of the page.

Similarly distribution of the article which is not written well can not be appreciated and linked to by other websites. Thus in order to be able to attract good visitors to the website and its pages, the published article must be relevant and simple and well written. The article should be useful to the audience and informational. There should be no repetition of keywords and use of variation of key phrase. The article should be targeted to target audience and help the reader with its information.

The paid directories charge either one time fee or recurring fee. Search engine optimization: Carve out a niche in the market for yourself

Basically, the term carries the definition of a process, which improves the volume of traffic on your website. In search engine optimization number of techniques are used, which are natural or algorithmic by which the targeted keywords are searched. A top ranking is given to the site which arrives earlier than others and this helps in attracting a large volume of traffic for the site. An optimization site can target different types of search such as image search, local search and industry specific vertical search engine. Earlier, businesses were conducted in a more unorganized manner and depended on the goodwill factor of any company’s clients. But, given the fast changing market scenario, a thoroughly strategy based approach works in a better manner towards an organization’s growth. Now, optimization techniques help in increasing the visibility factor of a company.

In the early 1990’s, organizations had begun to recognize the importance of making their sites rank higher and thus more visible on the internet. A number of eye-opening studies have been done, which show that the searchers read the pages on a site from top to bottom. A left to right scanning is also done by them to look for the meaningful results. Thus, placement near the top of rankings increases the number of searchers visiting the site. In the search engine optimization process, other internet strategies like paid advertising can increase the traffic on a particular website. This is the most effective step as it can increase the quality of the web pages. Many technical issues are addressed in the search engine optimization process and setting up of an analytics program helps the owners to evaluate their success.

Some of the leading search engines on the internet like the Google, Yahoo, Rediff etc., use the crawlers to find the pages for their results. The search engine optimization process involves a systematic methodology where an initial search engine optimization report is used. The next step involves the customized keyword analysis to define the most suited key phrases for any business. For designing the web pages, a title tag and the Meta Tag optimization is then carried out. This is followed by on page and image optimization process and then the search engine friendly site map is created. A number of search engine optimization plans also include the hand submissions to the top search engines, search engine submission confirmation reports as well as email assistance is part of the plan. Crawlers are used by some of the leading search engines, like the Google, Microsoft and Yahoo! etc., to find pages for their algorithmic search results. But for the pages that are linked from other search engines, the indexed pages need not to be submitted. As they are found out automatically, there is no need to go for it.

Search engine optimization is a good source of revenue for the companies. You, however, have to be cautious while opting for these optimization services as there is no guarantee of a continued referral. There is no need to put all your eggs in one basket. The lack of certainty, your business can suffer heavy losses as the algorithms change on a regular basis. This might result in lesser traffic on your website and can thus suffer heavy losses. Therefore, too much dependence on search engine traffic can be misleading. Since links from other websites could be the major sources of traffic for them, it is wise to look for the alternatives.

Search Engine Optimization Factors

Like anything, SEO is a tool that has it's place in the grand scheme of things, sometimes you need a hammer, other times you need a screwdriver. So, essentially knowing how and when to employ SEO, can be more pertinent than that the defining motive of why.

In order to keep the reading time brief, we will use a problem / solution summary to expedite the quandary and then move on to the next component.
Site Structure 2008 or 1998?

The Problem - WYSIWYG Editors If you created your site using a program that for lack of better terms does all the work for you, like Microsoft Front Page, Dreamweaver, or other types of WYSIWYG editors (what you see is what you get), chances are there is an abundance of code that is preventing user agents from crawling your pages.

If spiders cannot reach the content and are pressed by rampant renegade CSS, more often than naught they will simply move on to the next site and omit your chances of ranking since your pages fail to qualify (as a result of clunky code).

The Solution: If you really have content that is worthy of sharing, hire a developer or spend some time studying to build a search engine friendly/compatible XHTML,.Asp, or PHP site using an optimized content management system. WordPress works just fine for blogging and you can easily customize it by recreating an XHTML template version of your site that is W3C compliant (in other words squeaky clean with bells on it) to flag the spiders that you are ready to play ball.

This reluctance to relinquish the past with the "I built the site myself at Angel Fire / mentality" is what prevents a vast yet silent majority of websites from achieving their top 10 aspirations.

This becomes painfully apparent when you see examples of crusty content from 2 years ago cluttering up the pages, cobwebs on their ftp program or lack of fresh content whatsoever. Add a stint of questionable code with a poorly optimized site structure and your page is just asking for the boot.

Not to say that you can't use a WYSIWYG editor and still achieve high rankings (after removing the bloated in-line elements) such as tables or outdated HTML formatting, but let's just say that the internet is EVOLVING and it you do not, then those methods you clung to could be anchors dragging you down in the search engine result pages.

Up next...

Content, is your Content Cutting-Edge? or Dull as a Butter Knife?

If you are a business seeking to make an impact with your marketing message, what good is traffic if it does not convert? Granted, not all businesses are streamlined enough to shine in the spotlight online, but why just have a placeholder (as a website) when it could essentially replace all of your combined forms of advertising at a mere fraction of the cost per sale vs. print, radio, or television advertising?

The Problem - When asked about content creation, most small business owners reply by stating "they don't have anything to write about or they do not have the time to invest in developing new content for their website/brand".

The Solution simply hire someone who does. If you are that pressed for time or are quite frankly stumped to devise content that can serve as a bridge between you and your potential prospects, then pay attention to intrinsic opportunities, share your white papers, describe something about your industry in detail, parlay press from exciting trends, products or services that you can integrate from perusing RSS feed from news sources, Ezines and the like.

All of these things serve to provide your visitors with a satisfying reason to frequent your website or your blog again and again.

It is all about value, if your pages lack it, then your just another bump on the road until they click the back button or browser to find one of your competitors that does offer what your pages lack.

Strangers have no loyalty to your pages, unless you can convince them otherwise, this also applies to search engines as well. Search engine spiders are a tough lot to sell, they have been there, done that, seen that already and the uniqueness of your content is what they reward (by way of relevant highly qualified traffic that they can funnel to your pages) if you appease them.

Realistically there is a distinct formula for creating top 10 rankings, not that SEO's devised it that way, but rather the search engine engineers did by creating quality guidelines as the gatekeepers of the top 10.

For example, we know as a result of trial and error that search engines like;

* Fresh well written content
* Organized Site Architecture
* Traffic & Link Popularity

If you are not prepared to facilitate the 3 basic fundamentals of optimization outlined above, then save yourself the money on organic SEO, it simply may not be your cup of tea. Public relations and custom content creation may very well be more along the lines of a notable strategy to jump-start your internet marketing campaign.

In closing, What is SEO? Search engine optimization, much like a finely tuned piece of machinery, works best when pristine fundamentals are intact. SEO in a nutshell is a synchronized collaboration of themed on-page content, frequent engagement from search engine spiders, impeccable keyword selection to integrate relevance and a healthy portion of off-page link popularity to balance to the equation. So there you have it, the search engine algorithm simplified.
