SEO Tips & Tweaks – Some Timeless Ranking Factors and Some Outdated Ones

The search engine optimization industry has been one of the most dynamic ones. It always keeps web masters and website owners on their toes as they strive to get their websites on the top of search engine results.

Search engines like Google frequently change their algorithms of which, some of which they announce and some of which are left for us to guess. Either ways, we have to keep up out optimization efforts in order to preserve the rankings and make it score higher. However, in spite of the changes and updates, there are several practices that remain consistent throughout i.e. they are as relevant in today's time as they were in the past.

Here are some timeless SEO tips and tweaks that would help you improve your website ranking in search results.

Title Tags

Search engines place increased importance on the title tags of web pages. In fact, the title tags are one of the most important SEO elements of a web page. Good title tags are defined by their effective summarization of the web page in relevant words. All the pages of your website should have a unique and keyword rich title tags. These tags not only inform the search engines about the page contents but also appear in the search results and tell users about the contents.

Anchor Text

The visible text of the link is called the Anchor Text. One of the most important SEO ranking factor is the number of inbound links and the text that is used to connect the link hold increased importance. This is because the text that is used for the links also get indexed by the search engine crawlers and affects your rankings. For example if you sell T-shirts online and there is an external link that says 'Find Customized T-shirts Here' it would be a whole deal better to link the words 'customized T-shirts' than 'here'. This is the same case with your internal linking as well. Therefore, try and use descriptive 'keyword-rich' text for your links while linking to your own web pages.

Quantity of Inbound Links

With links, what is more important than the number of links is the number of unique domains they are coming from. If you have 100 inbound links coming from 50 different domains, it is actually better than having 1000 links coming from 5 domains. It is all about how dispersed and extended your link architecture is rather than how dense it is.

Social Media

Social media is a very powerful media to establish your presence and extend your business on the web. Social media websites like Facebook and Twitter offer enormous opportunities to plagiarize your content and increase your linking on the web. They can act as efficient traffic generating sources if used correctly.

Just as there are these basic SEO tweaks, there are also certain practices that have become outdated and don't work anymore. Here are some of them.

H1 Tags

They were a rage in the past because they informed the search engine crawlers about the increased importance of the particular text just because of the increased size. What happened was a little bit of CSS was used to specify H1 tags just anywhere and everywhere. However, at present H1 tags don't have all that importance.

Keyword Density

This was an important SEO consideration sometime back until people started stuffing keywords in the text to get a high density. As of now, there is no important placed on them. Rather, what is important is having good and highly valuable content.

The Way to the Top Search Engine

It is no real secret that a well written topical blog can significantly help out your website - so why aren't you doing it? and how to a better search engine optimization in your site.

The most common reasons I hear for not starting a blog involve a lack of time to write posts, and limited ideas to write about, but taking that extra time to get some useful content out there can do wonders for your search rankings among other things.

An established blog that is updated regularly gets spidered by Google often, and increases the chances of new search rankings considerably. I have seen multiple situations where regularly updated blogs wind up ranking #1 in Google for relevant phrases literally within a couple hours of posting. It usually takes a well established website and blog to make this happen, but there is big potential if you do things the right way.

While blogs work best if updated multiple times per week, even those with a new post every week or two have advantages. Blogs don't have to be a major undertaking, spending only an hour or so a week on posting can have you seeing results in no time.

There are many advantages to adding a blog to your website. Here are a few.

Increased Rankings
By boosting your topical content, you increase the value and relevance of your site. The more new stuff you add, the more of an authority you make your site, and this helps to improve your overall search rankings. It can also help you obtain rankings for "long tailed search phrases".

Long tailed search phrases are those that are less commonly searched, and usually exceed 3 or 4 words in length - they are also very targeted to your product or service. Blogs are great for getting rankings on long tailed search phrases. If you see a long tailed search phrase you want to rank for, use the phrase as the post title (if it makes sense to do so) and write a good, content rich post about it and your ranking potential for this phrase will rise.

By writing blog posts with your target phrases in mind, you can often help improve your overall rankings by increasing the relevance of the site to that search phrase. Consider also linking to other relevant pages within your site from the post.

Increased Traffic
Blogs are great for increasing internet traffic. Aside from the added traffic you may see from search ranking improvements, if your blog is interesting and topical, you will get some repeat visitors to your site as readers check back for new posts. If people really like your blog, they will spread the word, resulting in even more visitors. Just think, have you ever emailed or instant messaged a friend with a link to an article you have read? Don't you want your link to be the one passed around?

Credibility
By blogging regularly about your industry you will help to establish yourself as an expert. Many of your potential customers will see your blog and notice that you know what you're talking about and be more likely to utilize your services. By sharing your knowledge it can help to instill trust onto your visitors which can actually result in increased conversions. There are a lot of faceless, anonymous websites out there - an active blog can help people relate to you and trust you.

Links
A good, well written blog can result in free one way links to your site. Sometimes it is as simple as a fan adding your link to their blog roll, and other times it may be RSS working its magic. Try to squeeze in a link or two into your posts and direct them to other internal pages on your website. If anyone then republishes or syndicates your posts on their sites, you will also end up with a relevant back link. A blog is not a magic bullet used to skyrocket your inbound link counts, but it can certainly help.

What Platform To Use
I am a firm believer in the power of WordPress and the seemingly unlimited plug-ins available to help you. That said, just about any blog platform will work. It is probably best to stick with the main stream providers as they tend to have more options available and better support forums in case you get stuck with customization issues. In the end however, any search friendly blog platform will ultimately do the trick.

Blog Post Ideas
If after reading this you are sitting there thinking, "What should I write about?" here are some ideas to help you get going:

->New product launches
->Press releases
->Industry relevant news
->How to's related to your product or service
->Answers to reader comments
->Posts revolving around relevant long tailed phrases
->In depth product descriptions or tutorials
->Company history or interesting stories
->Reviews of related products, services or online tools

Blogs are relevant for pretty much all industries, and they don't have to take a lot of your time. A little creativity can help you come up with ideas for posts, just try to think outside the proverbial box.

If you've been putting off the blogging idea for some time, consider getting started now. There is much to gain and very little to lose.

So now that the Professional SEO Company has made itself known as a real player, there are a set of guidelines that any SEO Company in San Diego should follow to make sure that they're perceived as both professional and knowledgeable.

Why Search Engine Optimization Is A Must For Online Success

Many calls for articles are requested with the express description asking that a specific keyword or words be used for search engine optimization. If you are not familiar with the term, the definition according to Wikipedia is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via natural search results for targeted keywords.So do you know what it means now?

The search engine optimization request means that the word or words supplied by the requestor are to be used as many times as possible within an article while still sounding natural. The object is to generate the most traffic from search engines on the internet. When the word is used within a 500 word article a total of approximately 6 or 8 times without making the article sound too keyword stuffed, the chances of someone finding this article when they search the keyword is pretty good.

For the web owner who contracts for articles with keywords associated with their product or service, a search of that particular keyword will take you to their website. This is used to generate web traffic to their site in the hopes that they will purchase something. For instance, a website that sells hair care products may use hair or hair care as a keyword. When someone is interested in looking at anything that is remotely connected to hair they type in the keyword. The results are displayed and if your site made it to the first page of the search engines, chances are they will go to your website.

If visitors find something they like, they will buy a product from your site. If this happens several times a day you are generating traffic that will make your website more popular. The more hits or times that someone goes to your site, the higher in the rankings that are monitored by search engines like Yahoo and Google, your site will go. The goal is to be in the top spot of course, but number two to eight is a good spot as well.

This is the reason that many people who own websites post articles on their site. Using the keywords that will generate the traffic to their site is extremely important if you want your site to be recognized out of the millions that are starting to swamp the internet. The site can be several pages or one page and the articles that are used on the site are all linked back to the search engines. Search engine optimization has been the number one way for a site to gain recognition.

The first providers of content started the optimization for search engines in the 1990s. Then, it was a fairly simple process. The page was submitted, the search engines would basically send spiders to the page to dissect it. All the words and position in the article were searched and all the information was stored in the search engine.

The whole process of search engine optimization was so simple when it first started. Today, it requires specialized knowledge and serious effort. The search engine algorithms are changing everyday and there are billions of websites on the Internet to compete.

If done properly.... over a period of time, "search engine optimization" is well worth the effort because of the targeted visitors you get.

5 Quality Check Tips from a Professional SEO Company

Ever wondered what a professional SEO Company looks for when beginning a new project on a clients site.

There are a number of high-end quality Search Engine Optimising (SEO) and Marketing firms out there today. Ever wondered what is really involved when a website is put through its SEO maintenance check list. The following is an example of work that is normally carried out by professional SEO Company 360innovate.

ANALYSIS

Firstly, when a customer approaches 360 with a view to having SEO work carried out on their site the initial stage is to analyse the site and see what keywords they already target (if any) and also what on-site work needs to be done on the website (we call this on-page optimisation). It’s a bit like having a health and safety assessment on your premises, we go through the nuts and bolts of your site, the text, images, layout, navigation, structure and usability features to make sure that its been built to a standard that enables your site to rank at its most optimum in the main search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask).

There are at least 200 individual areas we examine and check and it is a very important first stage that gets you started. Thankfully there are a lot of customers out there who have employed good designers who make sure that the initial work is done and that the first stages as described above can be kept to a minimum.

KEYWORD RESEARCH

Keyword research is a very important step used in identifying what people actually type in the search engines to find your product or services.

For example, most of our customers find us using "SEO Company", or "SEO Company UK", but we also get traffic from "Search Engine Optimisation Company Scotland" or "Internet Marketing Company" plus a whole range of other sources.
Another factor to take into consideration is the conversion rate from a particular keyword search. Conversion rates can be determined by how many times it takes a unique visit to your site to actually buy something or even make an enquiry. There may be multiple reasons why your site is not converting from not targeting the correct traffic, bad design or navigation, perhaps your site suffers from a number of negatives that simply put people off from ordering/enquiring due to the lack of trust.

THE COMPETITION

We look at their site, not just once, but every day, we monitor changes, we log them, we work out why they are achieving such good results and we implement a strategy to better them.

KEYWORD DEFINITION

After extensive research into the keywords and phrases used in your industry we agree with you the amount of keywords that you wish us to focus on.This will vary from customer to customer, some customers will only want us to focus on a small amount of keywords for their SEO campaign and some will want us to focus on thousands of keywords, this is also how we define how much time we spend on your site initially and on a ongoing basis and according how much it will cost.

ARTICLE SUBMISSIONS/PRESS RELEASES

We produce articles and on-line press releases related to your business on a monthly basis linked to the keywords we use in your campaign, with links to your site within the content. We then release/publish these documents within trusted on-line sites that the search engines like to visit and read on a regular basis, this in turn links back to your site and gives you favourable search engine listing results, as the search engines see you updating your content on a regular basis.

LINK BUILDING

We will seek to link your site to as many other trusted sites available that are in your industry, for example if you are a retailer, we would link your site to National Retail Federation, or if you were a restaurant, we would link your site to a trusted restaurant review site. Link Building is a fundamental part of any SEO package. Search engines monitor the links pointing to your site. Gathering trusted links to your domain is a natural progression and any website that suddenly accumulates hundreds or thousands of links in a very short time frame will be flagged for underhand tactics and possibly put under review with a ban from the search engines being the favoured outcome. Not a good business strategy.

TIME SCALES

The time taken achieve good page one results differs according to how competitive your industry is, and anyone or company that guarantees you top ten results within a short time-frame be extremely cautious about employing them to carry out SEO work for you. However, If you have an uncompetitive keyword or phrase, then you can normally see results in about 6-12 weeks, if on the other hand you are in a fiercely competitive industry then it can be anywhere between 4-12 months.

ONGOING WORK

Everything spoken about here is not something that we do on one occasion, but is completely and utterly ongoing. It’s best to see SEO or Internet Marketing as a pro-active approach. The guidelines are always changing. What may work well today may not tomorrow. There are other approaches that we have not even touched upon in this article such as viral marketing, blogging, email marketing, podcasts, video marketing and social media marketing. The web is a fluid market, if you stand still then your competitors will pass you by.
